In the intricate history of the inhabitants of the Iranian plateau, the Iron Age

holds significant importance as it marks the onset of the historical period

associated with the first Achaemenid world empire. This era witnessed

numerous transformations driven by climatic conditions and the movements

of various peoples.

Numerous metal artifacts, both from warfare and non-warfare contexts,

including jewelry, assorted pottery, and bone items, have been unearthed

from the Iranian plateau during the Iron Age.

The Iron Age can be regarded as a period during which various cultures—

migrant tribes, invading tribes, and settled tribes—intermingled. However, the

term "Iron Age" specifically denotes the utilization of iron and the subsequent

decline in the use of other materials and minerals.

During this period, numerous teapot-shaped water vessels were uncovered,

one notable example being the zanbili-handled teapot, as illustrated here.

Zanbili handled teapots are ceramic vessels characterized by handles on the

rough side and represent some of the earliest forms produced in Iran. These

teapots served the purpose of containing liquids. The inclusion of tubes in

these teapots facilitated the effortless transfer of liquid into another

container.

This teapot, also known as a zenbil handle basin, originates from the Iron Age

and is currently housed in the Abhar Archaeological Museum. It has been

meticulously recreated by Dastan's art group using pottery fired at 850

degrees and glazed with turquoise at 950 degrees.
